Wii Sports Box 440X330

Still having trouble finding a Nintendo Wii 6 months after launch? Me too but the guys over at UNEASYsilence are giving away a Wii Sports-less Wii for free. What’s the catch you ask? Well for starters you need to be lucky as the winner will be picked at random and second all you need to do is spread the word about the contest. Blog about it, bookmark it on del.icio.us, digg it, twitter it, tumblr about it, they don’t care. After you you link to the giveaway, just post the link as a comment and just wait. I entered the last giveaway they won but walked away empty handled but who knows about this time.

Google Trends and RSS Revisited

Written by: Alec Peden - Posted in: lifehacks, web

Picture 1-16
Last month I started cleaning up my RSS feeds in the hope of making them less of a chore. Well, its been one month since then and I have deleted 72 feeds that have saved me 10,000 articles a month. This has helped me keep my RSS feeds manageable and I no longer feel like I’m a slave to Google Reader.

One of the biggest things I did was remove digg from my RSS reader. Why? Well first off it was my highest traffic feed, so deleting it helped save me hours a day and 2nd, I also go to digg.com anyways to digg articles. There was no real reason to have it in my RSS reader. So now what I do is once a day goto digg.com and look through the last few pages digging and reading as I go.

I can still trim a little more in the way of feeds but for now I’m a lot more productive during the day as I’m not tied to my RSS reader all the time. If I delete my new top traffic feed, techbargians.com, I can save another 2500 articles a month and probably some money too since I won’t see all the great bargains that I “must” have.

Diggnation Episode #80

Written by: Alec Peden - Posted in: life

January 10
Wednesday at Macworld was all about diggnation. Tho I was close, I took some pretty shitty pictures. Most are either blurry, have ginormous head dude or redhed girl in all of them

Flickr Set

The taping was awesome. Kevin and Alex got a couch from god knows where somehow and snuck in beers so it felt like a real diggnation taping. They tossed out T-shirts, which I didn’t get any and lighters, which I didn’t get any.

The video of its up for members right now and should be on iTunes in a couple days. Got to see the video and you can catch me during the beginning pan of the audience.

Support DMCA Reform - Help Pass HR 1201!

Written by: Alec Peden - Posted in: life, tech

Congress is now considering the Digital Media Consumers’ Rights Act (DMCRA, HR 1201), a bill that would amend the Digital Millennium Copyright Act to allow circumvention of copy protection for non-copyright-infringing uses. This would finally allow us to legally backup our DVDs and DRM’d music. Follow the link and contact your local representative!

Lost is found. The best theory to date.

Written by: Alec Peden - Posted in: tv

Most Lost theories, and there are many, are total crap, but this is by far the best and most thought out one I’ve seen so far.

Picked this up on digg today. Really good theory that i would like to see be right for a change. The whole collective conscious theory gives everything a so much deeper meaning. I remember when i was watching Serial Experiments Lain and they were touching on a lot of cyberpunk themes. There was something called the Wired which not unlike our Internet, connected people together. The difference was it used Carl Yung’s collective unconscious theory. The Wired was connecting everyone using Schumann resonance. Electromagnetism using a very low frequency, somewhere between 5-10Hz. So instead of wires and input devices to connect us, i.e. the internet, the Wired connected everyone using there minds all running at this low frequency. Most people will see the similarities to the Matrix. Some really good food for thought stuff here. I really enjoyed Lain and am a little bit more excited to see if Lost is using this kinda background as a plot basis. I do think i will break out the Lain DVDs this weekend and watch them again as my interest is now piqued again.
