Today was election day here in the US. I live in CT so our race was of some interest this year with eyes on Joe Lieberman. Well, he won. Oh well. I can’t really complain because I didn’t vote today. I wanted to but I’ve moved so many times in such a short period of time, I’m not sure where I’m even registered to vote anymore. So it looks like another 4 year with Joe “Mortal Kombat” Lieberman.

Panera WiFi

Written by: Alec Peden - Posted in: life

I’m here at Panera Bread having a Iced Green Tea trying to get some work done because my power is off at the house and can’t get online. I had a bright idea of coming down here to get some lunch and leech me some bandwidth. What a mistake that was. While lunch was good, their free WiFi sucks. I’m connected but can hardly pull up any webpages, update RSS feeds or even see if i have emails. I wrote a blog post for another blog of mine and it wont even post so I doubt your going to see this one. I might head down the road and hit Starbucks but you have to pay for that. I’ll be in work in an hour so thats probably a waste of time and money at this point. *sigh*

New Job

Written by: Alec Peden - Posted in: life

Sorry about the lack of posts lately. Between starting a new job and my Macbook’s case of RSD getting worse, I haven’t had much time to blog. But trust me, I do have a list. I have tomorrow off so I might go on a blogging marathon. With my new job, I’ve started a blog about my new job. I’m not going to link to it nor let anyone know about it due to wanting it to be anonymous so I can blog freely.

Other than that, not much else going on. I do hope this post will be the beginning of some more personal posts for this blog. Somehows its lost that personal touch and I’m going to try to add that back in.

Timbuk2 Blogger bag

Written by: Alec Peden - Posted in: life

Based on some reviews from Kevin and Gizmondo, I decided to order a Timbuk2 Blogger bag. Receieve it today and have some pics of it up on Flickr. My Macbook fits perfectly and is comfortable when carrying it so I’m happy. I’ll see how the week goes with all my stuff in it.

Macbook Discoloration

Written by: Alec Peden - Posted in: apple, life, tech

Well, my Macbook got hit by the discoloration on the palm rests. While not as bad as the picture above, it was starting to be noticable. So before letting it get worst, I decided to get it taken care of ASAP. Made an appointment at a local Apple store’s Genius Bar and even tho it was only slightly starting to show, they said they would replace the top under warranty. All they asked was if I smoked(I don’t, if your wondering). 7 days was my turnaround time, which is along time to be with a computer, but now I’m back and better than ever.

2 days before I picked up my Macbook they offically acknoweledged the problem with KB Article 304058. I’ve since moved to using an iCurve and Apple KB/Mouse.

The Monkey Chow Diaries

Written by: Alec Peden - Posted in: health, life, lifehacks

Meet Adam Scott. A few weeks ago he decided he was fed up with shopping, cooking and cleaning so decided to try and live off monkey chow for seven days. During the 7 days, he keep a blog of stats and made a video blog of the whole ordeal. Head over to The Monkey Chow Diaries to see how he made out. I just wish we would have went 30 days, that would have equally interesting and entertaining.

Monkey Chow Out.

Monolingual ate my OS X

Written by: Alec Peden - Posted in: life, software

Monolingual-1.3.0-En
No more than 24 hours after getting my brand new Macbook was I reinstalling Mac OS X from the restore CDs. For this feat I can take no credit. That credit goes to Monolingual. What seemed like a novel idea, to save some precious hard drive space by deleting unused language files, turned out to be a “How to reinstall Mac OS X” lesson.

For some reason, Monolingual strips out PPC binary code on Intel Mac’s, by default no less. This totally kills Rosetta. Not cool. No where in the FAQ or documentation does it say to not run this with those options turned on for Intel Mac’s. To be fair, Monolingual did save me space but only because I unchecked the extra language files and programs when i was running the restore.
