Deathly Hallows2

After 10 years, the Harry Potter series finally came to an end on Friday. I took a half a day at work to I could get in line at the local Barnes and Noble to pick up my copy of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows promptly at midnight. After some dinner we headed to B&N and walked around for the next hour or so while we waited for the magic hour. I had reserved the book but I was in group “I” due to getting to the store so late. After getting the book at around 1am, my excitement was foreshadowed by Amy noticing she did not have her wallet anymore, we went back to Pasta Fair and thankfully they had her wallet in the safe. So crisis averted and it was back to Harry Potter on the brain.

Now, mind you, I can’t read book 7 due to having never read book 6. I’ve read up to Order of the Phoenix but never got around to reading Half-Blood Price even tho I bought it at midnight the last time there was a Potter Party. My plan was to watch the OOP movie which came out last week to job my memory of book 5, then read book 6 while Amy read book 7. This way by the time I was finished with Half-Blood Prince, she would be done with the last book and I could start in on that too. As of now I’m half way done with book 6 and should be finished by next weekend. I can only hope I can keep up my media blackout of all things Harry Potter until I finished the final book.

Show Off Your Flickr Photos in Style

Written by: Alec Peden - Posted in: photos, web

Picture 4

The folks from 123flickr have released a new service at host.123.flickr.com that takes your Flickr account and gives it a “dynamic, functional, cool interface”. All you need to do is go to host.123flickr.com, enter the URL to your Flickr account, then it will generate a page for you complete with a URL you can give out or link to. Its a great way to show off your Flickr photos as a gallery. You can see my page here. A few drawbacks I’ve seen so far is that it will only show the first 30 pictures from any of your sets, it will not show pictures that are not in sets and there is no way to go from one picture to another without going back to the main page. Otherwise its a nice way to show off your portfolio to friends, family or potential clients.

Apple iPhone is not in da house

Apple’s long awaited iPhone was released yesterday after much hype. From most of the reviews I’ve been reading, it lives up to the hype too. Even with all the glowing reviews, I’m going to pass on the iPhone, for now atleast. My dependance on my Blackberry is enough to keep me away. I currently have a Blackberry Pearl and I’m still In love with my phone after 9 months. Its coming up on having the phone for a year so I’m itching for a new phone but the iPhone’s lack of Exchange or OWA support makes it a deal breaker to me. I’m definitely jealous of anyone who has an iPhone but I can’t justify paying $600 to lose a feature I depend on so much.

On a side note, its been confirmed that a 2nd gen Blackberry Curve will be coming to T-Mobile in September. I will be getting this phone once its released for sure. New features in the updated Curve include:

  • Wi-Fi
  • 3.2MP camera
  • Stereo Bluetooth
  • Improved build quality

As long as I’m at my current job, I’m going to be sticking with a Blackberry but damn do I want a iPhone.
