Windows Live Mail Desktop screenshots

While poking around flickr i came across these screenshots of a beta release of Windows Live Mail Desktop. I’m not sure what Microsoft’s plan is here because this is different from Microsoft Mail that comes with Vista. He has a few more pics up here. Now, I’m about one of the most tech savvy people out there but seriously, Microsoft is really confusing the shit out of me with Live and Vista.

I’m not sure about the “Desktop”, but “Windows Live Mail” will be a Hotmail replacement. It’s Microsoft’s anser to Gmail. It will be part of a new suite of online tools under the blanket name of “Windows Live”. Check out this link for more info…

FYI… the link doesn’t show the proper info if you’re on a Mac, you get redirected. It may do the same thing if you try to view it on a PC using Firefox. many of the Windows Live “features” only work in IE.

I know Live Mail is replacing Hotmail but this is clearly a desktop app. Now in the last Vista build i used, Feb CTP, Outlook Express is now called Microsoft Mail. This looks to be a different product altogether which doesn’t make any sense to me. What possible reason would then need two seperate desktop clients. I have nothing against Microsoft but they are flooding the market with redundant products. 7 versions of Vista? wtf.

You’ll get no argument from me… I’m often confused by Microsoft. I try not to think about it anymore… or my head hurts. ;)
