Most Lost theories, and there are many, are total crap, but this is by far the best and most thought out one I’ve seen so far.

Picked this up on digg today. Really good theory that i would like to see be right for a change. The whole collective conscious theory gives everything a so much deeper meaning. I remember when i was watching Serial Experiments Lain and they were touching on a lot of cyberpunk themes. There was something called the Wired which not unlike our Internet, connected people together. The difference was it used Carl Yung’s collective unconscious theory. The Wired was connecting everyone using Schumann resonance. Electromagnetism using a very low frequency, somewhere between 5-10Hz. So instead of wires and input devices to connect us, i.e. the internet, the Wired connected everyone using there minds all running at this low frequency. Most people will see the similarities to the Matrix. Some really good food for thought stuff here. I really enjoyed Lain and am a little bit more excited to see if Lost is using this kinda background as a plot basis. I do think i will break out the Lain DVDs this weekend and watch them again as my interest is now piqued again.

Hmmm, Ok, then what’s with the computer shut-off 108 minutes then? And why would they be using such an antiquaited computer if this were a collective unconscious “wired” idea? Although, it does sort of explain what happened to Walt if you use that lens…

BTW, if interested, a review of Lain with screencaps:

The theory touches on the 108mins and computer:

Much of the Orientation film and what Desmond says is false and purely to ensure that our heroes press those bloody buttons every 108 minutes. The purpose is threefold: to provide a focus for the community - a reason to go on and something ‘meaningful’ that goes beyond rational decision-making; secondly, to protect the hatch/power-supply/scientists behind the concrete; and, thirdly, to download the information from the Oersted satellite as it orbits the Earth every 108 minutes (please Google this) to get the latest on the magnetic poles.

But the whole Lain thing was independent of the Lost theory. I just went off on a tangent as the collective conscious aspects reminded me of the collective unconscious in Lain.

Btw, nice review. I definitely bookmarked the site.

My problem is A - When Desmond Tell’s Jack he remembers him, why doesnt Jack tell the rest that he knew Desmond before the accident? B - Why hasnt Micheal told them that he used the computer to speak to walt. C - Why hasnt John told them that before the accident he couldnt walk.

I think if they keep going on the way series 2 has gone, people will get bored and tune out. At least with series one we had suprises most weeks which left us dying to see the next episode. With this Series it isnt the case.
